The Douglas commercial (DC-3) was one of the most remarkable aircraft ever produced. An improved successor of the McRobertson trophy air race winning DC-2, it was produced in record numbers and was celebrated for its reliability, relative comfort and speed.
It opened up air travel to the masses during the 1930’s, but was propelled to legendary status for its contribution to the Second World War. Named C47 ‘The Sky Train’ by the military, it formed the backbone of the Allies logistical chains throughout the war.
